It seems like Senior citizens have a major discontent with Medicare because Medicare will not pay for the COVID19 test at their local pharmacies and must wait for the free at-home test.
The Seniors are well aware of the fact that private insurers for people under 65 are paying for the test at their local Pharmacies and Medicare is not paying for the test. This disturbs the Seniors because they feel that Medicare is not doing its job.
The Seniors are also upset because the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends people over 65 to get tested but Medicare will not pay for it. This could lead to more deaths in the elderly population because some may be too proud or cannot afford to pay for the test out-of-pocket. The majority of beneficiaries in the traditional Medicare program are unable to be reimbursed. Many seniors and people with disabilities who rely on Medicare aren’t able to get compensated. Enrollees in Medicare Advantage plans offered by private insurers must contact their insurance carriers to find out whether they will be responsible for the payment.
According to a senior CMS official, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is considering methods to increase Medicare reimbursement. Traditional Medicare has not paid for over-the-counter testing before, so the agency is evaluating how it might create a new payment system, according to a source who did not provide a timetable.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 tests carried out by a laboratory at no cost when ordered by a doctor or other health care provider are covered by Medicare. It added that enrollees can get free testing sites or order free home tests through the federal program covidtests.gov if they choose to do so. But this causes delays and places a burden on the Senior who could just go to their local Pharmacy or retailer and get a COVID 19 test but that is not the case.
Many Seniors would probably test a lot more frequently if I were getting them at no charge through Medicare. However, it is important to determine if you have a Medicare Advantage Plan and the plan provides you with Over-the-Counter benefits The over- the-counter benefits may cover the COVID19 testing, but most of the over-the-Counter is mail orders and may cause delays in getting your COVID 19 test.
Seniors are frequently perplexed as to why Medicare demands that its members visit doctors or laboratories, where they may be exposed to sick individuals, in order to get tested. They feel like they have to work harder to get COVID19 tested when they are the population that is more vulnerable to the virus.
This is not the only reason Seniors are frustrated and angered with Medicare. Medicare premiums have increased also. PART B of Medicare has increased 14.5 percent for 2022 because a Pharmaceutical company BIOGEN is charging $28,000 for medication and passing the cost on to the Senior population and our politicians are allowing this to happen.
Senior citizens in this country are being ignored again, especially after digging deeper into our pockets for Medicare premiums causing an enormous level of frustration.
