If You Are Thinking About Switching Your Medicare Plan Your Opportunity Ends March 13,

If you are on a Medicare Advantage plan you have the opportunity to switch the plan to another plan or back to the original Medicare but only up until March 31, 2022, because this ends what is known as the Medicare Open Enrollment Period not to be confused with the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period.

The Medicare Open Enrollment Period is the time when you can make changes to your existing coverage or switch to a new plan without having to wait for a Special Election Period.

If you are happy with your current Advantage Plan then you don’t need to do anything and your coverage will automatically renew for next year.

However, if you are thinking of making a change then now is the time to do it.

The most common reason people switch health insurance plans is that they find out that something on the plan they are on has changed and they no longer like it. For example, their doctor is no longer in the network or the plan does not cover certain medications.

If you decide to make a change it is important to note that you can only make one change and you will be locked into the new plan until the next annual open enrollment period which is October 15, 2022-December 7, 2022, unless you fall under a special open enrollment period or fall under chronic Special Needs Plan or Dual Special Needs Plan.

It’s essential to note that if you switch back to Original Medicare, with the intent of going back to your Medicare Supplement Plan you won’t be eligible for a “Guarantee Coverage” – you’ll have to go through underwriting in order to get a Medicare Supplement Plan. So before canceling your Medicare Advantage plan, apply for the Medicare Supplement coverage first.
